This car replaced a MB 320CDi Sport which was more practical, but chewed it’s 35 profile rear tyres on speed bumps. I avoided the M Sport as I didn’t want a hard sporty ride, but chose sports seats as the SE armchairs didn’t provide enough support. Reasonable fuel consumption - very good on long runs - and an excellent car to drive.
This is an all-new model, but you’d need a keen eye to tell. It’s very 3 Series-ish, and that’s a good thing because elsewhere in the range BMW has gone mad, fitting radiator grilles the size of long-stay airport car parks. At present there are six engines on offer. Diesels and hybrids and so on. And now there is an M3 Touring.
BMW claims the M550i can do 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds. Having felt it leap unfussed from standstill then surge effortlessly into triple-digit velocities, I'd say that's conservative. Bet it'd dip
